I work the front desk at a busy hotel. People will stand here and expect me to be able to check them in while they talk on their cell phones. One man stood here and tried to finish his conversation while others were behind him waiting in line. Another lady was talking about very personal things on her phone while my coworker was checking her in.
We cannot efficientally do our jobs and it’s driving us insane!
Who else has had to deal with a similar situation with people on their phones and how did you handle it?
I used to work the night shift at a hotel, and people did the same thing. I would just wait until they were finished. But I see that probably is not your option during the day when things must run a bit faster and smoother. I would politely say, mame or sir, I need to get some important information from you. If you wish, I can wait until you finish your phone conversation. Usually this subtle hint should bump them off the phone.
